Improve habitat quality and climate-adaptivity of freshwater ecosystems through management of invasive aquatic invertebrates.

Project description

The project wants to increase the capacity of the North Sea Region to better preserve its ecosystems and its capacity to be climate-adaptive by better managing the aquatic invertebrate IAS.

This will be achieved through placement of efficient traps targeting these invasive species in pilot areas in at minimum 3, preferably 4 countries.

Caught specimens will be examined and analyzed to obtain genetic information to map existing populations and their interaction.

impact on local ecosystems will be measured as to pinpoint ecological damage done by these invasive species.

Confirmed partners

  • Vlaamse Milieumaatschappij-VMM (flanders)
  • Province of east flanders- Rato VZW(flanders
  • University of Antwerp(flanders)
  • GEMEL (France)
  • CSLN (France)
  • University of Dresden (Germany)
  • University of Skövde (sweden)

Partners we are looking for

We would like to connect with German partners from the program area willing to place a trap to catch invasive invertebrates in their management zones. A watermanager  local government  with jurisdiction over local rivers  would be more then welcome.
