Join the North Sea Photo Contest 2025!

Get visual - join the next Interreg North Sea Photo Contest! You will reap lots of benefits in the process. Photos are top assets for getting your message across, and good images are often the gateway to publicity. 

Why participate?

  • The winning photos, and the projects behind them, will be showcased during an award ceremony at the North Sea Conference in June 2025.
  • All submitted photos will be featured online and used to promote the projects that participate.
  • Eye-catching photos are invaluable assets for shining the light on your project. Joining our contest is just one more reason to compile great images from all your partners. And maybe even organise a photoshoot?

1: ENGAGING PEOPLE

Showcase the heart of your project in action!

Submit photos that capture moments of connection with volunteers, stakeholders, citizens, or students actively involved in your project. We are looking for dynamic shots that highlight collaboration, participation or impact.

2: NORTH SEA PLACES

Celebrate places in the North Sea Region!

Show why places matter. Submit photos that bring your work to life against the backdrop of landscapes, cityscapes, or the North Sea itself. The place should have a strong link to your project. Images in this category must also be linked to your project's topic or the work you are doing in the featured place.

3: BEAUTY, FUN and CREATIVITY

Let your imagination run free!

This category is for photos that stand out for being visually stunning, charming, inventive, or full of playful energy. The topic is free as long as the photo is linked to your project. For example, your photos may illustrate your work and its impacts, or you can highlight creative and fun aspects of your project’s journey.

Guiding principles: What we are looking for

Regardless of the category, the jury will evaluate the quality of entries according to the following principles: 

  • Beautiful or stunning images. Eye-catching photos with a great composition, interesting angles and/or strong visual appeal.
  • Storytelling and messaging. Images that tell a powerful story or sends a clear message about your project. 
  • People in focus. Centering on the human aspect will often add extra power to your image.

Eligibility criteria

  1. The contest is open to ongoing Interreg North Sea projects.
  2. You must have the full copyright to each submitted image, including the rights to share it with the Joint Secretariat for promotional purposes. 
  3. You must have consent from recognisable people featured in submitted photos. You may use this form for the purpose. In the online application form, you must confirm that there is consent although you are not required to upload the signed form. 
  4. The photos do not include any overlays such as text, shapes, logos etc. 
  5. The photos should be provided in high resolution and no smaller than 1,500 x 800 pixels.

How to submit your entries

Please submit your entries by clicking on the the relevant category option below.  You may submit up to 5 photos per category. 

Please note: You need to enter a brief description for each photo, providing the context/story behind it. 

The deadline for submission is 6 May 2025  - end of day. 

A jury of national programme representatives will judge all entries and award a winner in each of the three categories. Winners will receive a message by xx April 2025 and will receive their award at the North Sea Conference on June 25.
