Showcases durable solutions for biomass from nature reserves

In four showcases in Belgium, participants will look how maintenance residues from nature reserves can be used. It is shown how they can be combined with residues from agriculture and horticulture. And how valorisation can take place under involvement of nearby stakeholders. Different conditioning and processing methods (mulching, composting, fermentation, anaerobic digestion) are demonstrated. The four showcases refer to the most interested and suitable farmers of the region. Each showcase looks at a different technology or mixture of substrates to demonstrate its feasibility and integratability of maintenance residues into farms. Policy advice is given to stimulate a reassessment of regulations that inhibit bioresource use solutions for the biomass of the nature reserve.

Four showcases are situated at:

  • Gulke Putten
  • Moenenbroek and
  • Schupleer/ Lovenhoek
