In summertime, the shores of the Lake of Hornborga provide a lot of gras. The gras is mowed and used as the input stream for the biogas installation of JönKöping.
Last decades, the area of the Lake of Hornborga is restored and brought back into a nature area. The Hornborgasjöns Nature Reserve. An area were lots of birds stay over for the winter time. In summer the wetland grass is collected. And stored. The Nature Reserve cooperates closely with the Biogas Plant of JönKöping. During the year, the biogas plant picks up the straw bales for using it in the biogas installation. The plant consists of two dry anaerobic digesters. In the digestion they use 40.000 tonnes of substrates. 30% of these substrates is greenwaste. 262 ton comes from the nature reserve. The greenwaste is mixed with 65% of foodwaste from households.
The solid fraction from the biogas plant is used again as soil improver in the municipality. 52 city busses and 25 waste collection trucks are driving on the to biomethane upgraded biogas. This beautiful cooperation showes how the fuel for the future can look like!
