Last autumn, the Technical University of Hamburg organized two events together with the Entsorgungs Betrieb Lübeck. Also TRAVE (Lübecker building association), LBV (Lübecker Bauverein, Lübecker building association) and BC (Biocycle Consulting, Expert biowaste), were part of the organization of the event.

During the event, citizens were informed about the new food wast collection system which will be implemented to increase source-separated biowaste amounts and qualities.

The two events with Lübeck citizens belong to the two test areas from the showcase 12a, where a new food wast collection system will be implemented to increase source-separated biowaste amounts and qualities. The overarching goal is to minimize microplastics in compost. The residents of the testing areas were informed about biogas generation and composting in general. And about the planned collection tests. Furthermore CLOSECYCLE and KUKOM were introduced. There will be two testig areas:

Test area 1: Event at “Theodor-Heuss-Straße“

The event was conducted in an open setting. The residents reveived information and could take a look at the composts. Flyers were available.

Test area 2: Event at "Stettiner Straße"

This event was conducted within the residential complex of a central building. Also here the residents could see the composts and the project was explained.

In 2025, in the test areas specific collection vessel will be provided to the citizens in testing phase1. This will encourage a more meticulous sorting of waste. In the next phase2, a special e-cargo bike will transport the foodwaste. This shall diminish emissions from waste trucks.
