Facilitating and demonstrating international overseas BVLOS UAV fixed wing cargo flight
This project aims to outline, facilitate and demonstrate why BVLOS (beyond visual line of sight) operations, which allow UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) to continue their missions when out of sight of a human observer, will form the future of the drone industry. Opening up beyond visual line of sight with drones is really what’s going to unlock 99% of the market use cases. Drones have a number of applications, particularly in delivery and cargo that really only open when beyond visual line of sight becomes acceptable. The industry has expanded with the introduction of BVLOS but has not nearly reached its full potential. The potential applications of BVLOS flights are virtually endless. The need to create a system in which rules and regulations can keep up with the technology while keeping the national airspace safe is of the utmost importance. It is incumbent upon industry to have a constant level of communication with EASA and showing them steady progression of not only BVLOS applications but also the safety associated with these operations. This would give EASA confidence the industry is moving in the right direction safety-wise and therefore EASA can expand the operational approvals for the BVLOS applications.
This projects aims to demonstrate a proof of concept of a BVLOS cargo flight between at least two drone hubs or airports, including the regulatory formalities. The flight itself will mostly take place overseas to reduce risks to a maximum.
