Port of Ebsjerg

About us

Objective:

The North Sea Hydrogen Valley Ports (NS H2V Ports) project aims to establish green hydrogen (H₂) corridors between strategic ports in the North Sea region. These ports will become critical nodes for the production, import, export, and distribution of green hydrogen and Power-to-X (PtX) fuels such as methanol and ammonia.

Key Goals:

  • Develop four Port Hydrogen Valley Master Plans for Esbjerg, Brest, Bremen, and Den Helder to connect H₂ production directly with end users.

  • Support the EU’s REPowerEU target of producing 10 Mt of green hydrogen by 2030, and importing another 10 Mt, by unlocking the role of ports as key hubs in the hydrogen economy.

  • Address governance barriers and promote closer collaboration between H₂ producers, ports, and end users through Hydrogen Valley Partnerships.

  • Accelerate investment in hydrogen infrastructure by stimulating demand creation, including public procurement, auctions, and Contracts for Difference (CfDs).

  • Promote maritime hydrogen development, including vessel design and bunkering infrastructure, which currently lags behind land-based hydrogen activity.

Impact:

  • Deliver actionable roadmaps and timelines for the creation of a regional hydrogen economy in four key port regions.

  • Enable a network of hydrogen-ready ports, with aligned technical standards for shipping, bunkering, pipelines, and distribution.

  • Foster public-private cooperation to support governance innovation, investment readiness, and port decarbonisation strategies.

  • Contribute to the EU’s vision of the North Sea as a key Hydrogen Import Corridor.
