Rekuup shopping weekend of Novenber 30th and December 1st
The Rekuup shopping weekend on Saturday 30 November and Sunday 1 December was organised by De Republiek for lovers of local craftsmanship, second-hand bargains and sustainable shopping tips. It included a shopping route, a pop-up in the city centre and the Rekuup exhibition in the Sashuis.
On the Rekuup Shopping Route, you could pop in to Handmade in Bruges makers to shop local and sustainable handmade products. At some of them you could also take part in a workshop or drop in for advice. For example, you could repair your broken cup or plate with golden glue according to the Japanese Kintsugi technique. Other makers gave free advice on how to give your things a second life, e.g. by pimping your handbag or having an old gold jewel melted down into a contemporary piece of jewellery.
You could also score a second-hand outfit in one of the many second-hand shops that were also on the shopping trail. Kringwinkel ‘t rad was opening its new pop-up and also organised two workshops!
Besides the shopping route, you could also visit the Rekuup pop-up we set up centrally in the city for one weekend. Not only could you find sustainable gifts at the sales stands, but also a programme full of workshops and demos, where you could learn to repair or upcycle your stuff. Like repairing your knitted jumper or scarf with ‘visible mending’, making coat hangers from prunings or turning the needles of your Christmas tree into a delicious bubbly drink.
Hungry or thirsty? That was also taken care of in a sustainable way! At Kopje Zwam's foodtruck you could order delicious oyster burgers or croquettes with ingredients grown in a circular way. Or you could join De Broodsmid's delicious local breakfast in the cosy setting of Dees Koffiebranders' brand new coffee bar in Hoogstraat on Sunday morning.
It was a successful weekend with a large participation of very interested visitors who learned how to shop more sustainably. The participating shops were also very pleased with the attendance, questions and orders they received.
