What went on during the conference?
On Wednesday April 17th, the EHRIN project partners visited the conference of the Interreg Baltic Sea project called BOWE2H in the historical center of Malmö. BOWE2H is linked to the EHRIN project in multiple ways; focus on the development of a hydrogen economy, by a knowledge exchange between regions and both a small-scale Interreg project. We presented EHRIN as a ‘complementary’ Interreg project, that looks specifically at governance required to drive hydrogen. The conference was organized by the Energikontor Syd AB, Växjö, Sweden.
The presentations of energy authorites, producers like Vattenfall, transport operator Nordion Energi and the city of Trelleborg in Skåne provided a valuable background to the discussions with our EHRIN partners the following day.
On Thursday, we started with a site visit in the rural area of Skåne. In the village of Sjöbo, a low CO2 energy system has been implemented by a company that has a portfolio with community buildings. It was an inspirational visit! The message was that you have to rethink your energy demand and apply systems thinking for the creation of a sustainable energy system that makes optimal use of different components; wind, solar, hydrogen, heat.
Yes, it can be done!
In the afternoon we discussed various engagement strategies at the offices of Länsstyrelsen. Lobby methods, network approaches took us a step further in creating and understanding successful strategies for driving hydrogen in our regions. It was great to see the engagement and positivity!
A big thanks to all the people who contributed to this event!
