Site characteristics:
Our project partner Brest Métropoleis responsible for the management of this demonstrator site. The Moulin Blanc beach in the port of Brest is an urban area which involves a number of different stakeholders (nautical actors, aquarium Océanopolis, swimming pool, restaurants, shops, marine renewable energies polder) and different types of day and night activity end-users (professionals, tourists, boaters, walkers, bikers). This demonstrator site includes a vegetated slope between sandy shore and walking path, cycling routes and a little further, high traffic road without nature and a rail track.
Light modifications:
During the light modifications (planned for Autumn 2024), the public lighting of the cycle path will be renovated including a lowering of the light support height (lamp poles), change of colour temperature and lanterns, dimming (depending of time of night), partial detection control and partial switch-off. These new installations are part of Brest Métropole lighting renovation strategy and a major urban renewal project. Specific ecological assessment will influence the lighting solution and technology choices, factoring in biodiversity as a component for decision making.
Environmental impacts of the lighting will be monitored in marine and terrestrial habitat before and after the modifications. Find out more about the ecological monitoring and the process of establishing the monitoring protocols here.
