Lysekil Hub Pilot Case: Lysekil+
Municipality of Lysekil
Lysekil is situated in the archipelago on the Swedish West Coast with a history of sea and fishing industry. The rare fjord Gullmarsfjorden has since 1877 attracted marine researchers to Kristineberg research station (Kristineberg centre for marine research and innovation). The base for research and innovation is still very strong. In the municipality, we find representation from five universities, two institutes and a science park.
We also have the largest refinery in Sweden, Preemraff (Preem’s refinery), in Lysekil. Today, Preemraff is Sweden´s third largest emitter of carbon dioxide. Preem's conversion to a climate-neutral operation by 2035 is an important accelerator. We need to gear up to create something smart and green that will last for many generations to come. Therefore, we have created a hub for our major green transformation of the entire community.
Lysekil will participate in all three WPs and activities since we are a hub; to develop and host the local hub in Lysekil as well as facilitate workshops and local development work/activities with entrepreneurs, business organisations and knowledge institutions etc. We will also contribute with our experience and network within blue economy and hub development.
The project will provide knowledge and good practice from partners whose hubs already are up and running. SIRR will also enhance and foster collaboration throughout the community when enabling a resilient and sustainable society.
The Municipality of Lysekil has during the years participated in several Interreg ÖKS projects, both as partner, national coordinator and as Lead Partner. Today, we are a part of two active cross boarder projects. Lysekil is also, via the Swedish national innovation platform for blue economy, Viable Seas, involved in Mission Ocean Banos.
Lysekil will benefit from participating in the project in many aspects. SIRR will directly contribute to our transformation - In the next years Lysekil need a developmental leap equivalent to 20 years, the change will be enabled via four sub-projects
- skills supply
- life and housing
- business development
