Province of Utrecht (NL)

The Province of Utrecht, as a governmental organization on a regional level, has the responsibility to secure reachability in the whole region and between the 26 municipalities within the region. The aim is to do this in line with societal challenges like sustainability and livability to support local, national or European goals. The province of Utrecht also has the role of grantor for the regional public transport system. Overall, the province of Utrecht is very experienced in collaboration between the different municipalities within the region. Within the region of Utrecht, an increase in mobility is expected. Besides, there is a growing need for flexibility for travellers. These developments ask for the connection of multiple mobility networks to one multimodal regional (or even national) mobility system. Shared mobility has the potential to fulfil this need.

The province will be Lead Partner. The province of Utrecht will contribute to this project mainly in Work Package 2: Upscaling shared mobility hubs. As a regional governmental organization, the task is to connect and support municipalities. Currently, shared mobility initiatives arise on the local (municipal) scale, without much collaboration. Within this project, the aim is to create insights into what is happening within the region by collecting, organizing, and analyzing data on shared mobility. In doing so, the province of Utrecht will try to discover where the potential is for connecting different initiatives to create a regional shared mobility system. This will result in a blueprint on how to create insight scale up shared mobility initiatives, which can be used as a guideline by other cities or regions. These studies will be performed in collaboration with the HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht
