Wondering about our region?
Region Midtjylland covers 19 municipalities and an area of 13,000 square kilometres and Region Midtjylland has a population of 1.3 million people - approx. 23% of the population in Denmark. Central Denmark Region has approximately 30.000 employees.
The primary responsibility of the region is healthcare and additionally development within public areas of transport/mobility, education, culture and environment. Regional development is therefore important in a broad range of areas.
What’s our purpose?
Central Denmark Region strives to ensure a good life for all 1.3 million citizens. Our ambition is to be an attractive and sustainable region and we wish to promote sustainable solutions to major challenges both locally, nationally and globally.
Regional Development in Region Midtjylland works with development in partnerships in the following areas:
- handling risks from soil and groundwater pollution (mapping, investigation and sanitation)
- raw material mapping and the administration of raw material extraction permits
- commissioning and payment of regional bus, train and light rail operations between major cities across municipalities
- green transition, sustainability and climate adaptation - within the organization and across different geographical areas
- developing a good cultural life throughout the region by cross functional collaborations supporting the cultural operators
- rural development in order to create a better balance between the countryside and the city
- cross-border, EU- and other international collaborations.
Across all areas, we work in broad partnerships to ensure that political visions and solutions for our society's critical problems can be transformed into actions and benefit as many people as possible.
We work closely with educational institutions, businesses and municipalities on a range of projects. Every year, Central Denmark Region invests in development projects within culture, education, rural development, climate adaptation, green mobility and health innovation. We also collaborate with international partners and undertake many projects with funding from the EU.
What do we want to achieve within the project?
The Mobility Makers project fits our regional development strategy, as it supports a good and sustainable life all over the region and well-functioning and active local communities, which is essential to maintaining settlement and service in the rural areas. The strategy is based on a belief that local communities can contribute with solutions to the global challenges addressed by the UNs 17 development goals.
Region Midtjylland makes a joint effort with the other Danish project partner Designskolen i Kolding in order to create two living labs in the project, where we will gain experiences from selected villages below 3.000 inhabitants. The two municipalities on Djursland and Herning Municipality will help us in the process and supports the project through active participation along the way.
Through involvement of citizens, we want to get a better understanding of questions like: Can we combine different types of transport, so to bring people from A to B in new and more flexible ways? How can we best promote local capacity building related to connecting people, communities and nature? It seems crucial to have a positive dialogue with citizens in order to understand their needs and motivation for achieving more sustainable mobility solutions. In terms of rural-urban linkages, we aim to motivate citizens in villages to change behaviour regarding the use of car.
