Test a participation model with children and young people

Länsstyrelsen Skåne will test a model for how to create participation through dialogue with the children and young people.

Children and young people are the ones who will shape and live in the society of the future; therefore, it is extremely important to listen to them. We take our point in a hypothesis that children and young people are the key to changing different transport behaviors and that it is therefore central to find forms for a dialogue with children/young people about how they see future transport infrastructure; with or without a car.

The concrete result of our work in the project will be an operational manual with recommendations on how municipalities, regions and authorities can work to increase the participation and influence of children and young people in planning and decision-making when it comes to transport infrastructure.

Svalöv municipality has chosen to enter the project through something they call "The Cycling School Bus"; where children are allowed to participate and plan how they can safely cycle to school together and thereby reduce their parents' car transports. A very interesting and exciting project that we are very much looking forward to.

We also have an ongoing dialogue with other cities in our region regarding their possible interest in joining the project.

Furthermore, two students at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm will write their degree thesis connected to the MM-project.
