What do you need to know about us?

The Smart Mobility Research Group (SMRG), based at the Chair of Information Management, represents the University of Göttingen in the Mobility Makers Project. The Chair comprises of a diverse team engaged in a multitude of research in addition to smart mobility, including research in digital health and data governance.

The SMRG is an interdisciplinary research team that brings together a variety of backgrounds and expertise to investigate topics related to digitally enabled, intelligent, and sustainable mobility solutions. Our day-to-day business can be summed up in a multifaceted basket of

  • Developing and testing digital mobility artifacts (e.g. mobile applications, data platforms, simulations) and business model concepts
  • Undertaking research into the acceptability of new and sustainable mobility choices
  • Research and implement persuasive systems design for sustainable behavior change (e.g., gamification, digital nudging)
  • Conducting needs assessment and creative solution development research using qualitative, mixed-methods, and design science
  • Using virtual reality environments to prototype and conduct behavioral experiments
  • Investigate privacy and information security issues in the context of mobility

What is our purpose?

In collaboration with HZ University, we occupy a leading role among the knowledge partners in this project. Our objective is to identify the research that should be conducted in order to obtain reliable and generalizable results for our knowledge base. In pursuing this goal, we provide the pilots with scientific advice and guidance.

Why are we in the MM project?

Previously, we were involved in the Interreg project MOVE (2018-2022), where it became clear that people are generally aware that they should behave more sustainably in terms of their mobility. Now it's about taking the next step and actually achieving measurable and sustainable change.

As SMRG, we support the pilots on their individual path to the goal by developing a common scientific mobility framework and a methodology for the comparability of the various pilot projects and by providing advice on the implementation progress of the pilot ideas. We are experts to contact for questions relating to scientific data collection and evaluation.
