A key area within the municipality is the Kenniswerf. The heart of the Kenniswerf is where HZ University of Applied Sciences, Scalda, and Dockwize are active in education, research and entrepreneurship. Here, we bring together talented students, established entrepreneurs and promising startups, working closely with one another. The Kenniswerf focuses on promoting innovation and entrepreneurship in the delta themes of water, food, energy and vitality. Through the combination of theory, practice and cooperation with businesses, the Kenniswerf is a vital driver of the regional economy.

What is our purpose?

The municipality of Vlissingen is working with HZ, professorship Healthy Region, to reduce car usage to and from the Kenniswerf and stimulate sustainable forms of transport. When car use is reduced in favor of cycling, public transport, and/or shared transportation, less parking space is needed. In addition, these forms of mobility have a positive effect on the health of employees and students.

If less parking space is needed, the Kenniswerf can be made greener and more attractive, which also positively affects the health and well-being of its users.
In the coming period, we will work with a mobility coach at the Kenniswerf to examine, together with companies and organizations in the area how the behavior of users can be influenced.

The aim is to promote sustainable forms of mobility and reduce car usage. Additionally, when redesigning the public area, the municipality puts more emphasis on facilitating slow traffic and greening and less on facilitating car traffic.

Why are we in the MM project?

By collaborating with partners across Europe, we expect to gain more insights and ultimately achieve better results. Through the expertise of MM partners, the municipality of Vlissingen hopes for a good partnership, where we can learn from each other and draw inspiration in the areas of sustainable mobility and influencing behavior to encourage the use of these sustainable forms of transport.

Both the involvement of the mobility coach and the greening of existing parking spaces are made possible by subsidies from the Interreg project Mobility Makers.
