Who are we?

The County Administrative Board of Skåne, in the very south of Sweden, is a regional management and development authority working directly under the Swedish government. The Board works on issues concerning the environment, urban development, the labour market, competence sourcing, the business community, social development, gender equality, democracy, human rights, integration and migration, transport, infrastructure, housing and spatial planning. The County Administrative Board’s task is to coordinate these and other areas of public responsibility to achieve efficient solutions for a sustainable society in which economic development, the environment and social welfare are interlinked.

Together with the 33 local municipalities in Skåne, the universities, large and small companies, NGOs, national governmental agencies, regional agencies and the inhabitants in our region the County Administrative Board of Skåne work very hard to find ways to boost the innovation and development process in Skåne.

What do you need to know about Skåne?

Skåne is Sweden's southernmost region and has 33 local, and self governing, municipalities with a total population of 1.4 million inhabitants who live on an area of approximately 11,000 km².

Skåne has a unique proximity between city and countryside. With many urban areas with small distances between them, many contact surfaces are created between cities and rural areas. For those who live in Skåne, this means that there is a proximity between accommodation, nature and cultural experiences, work and education; which is a prerequisite for an attractive living environment. The proximity between city and countryside also provides a good basis for developing services and products within green growth and circular economy. The largest city is Malmö with roughly 360,000 inhabitants. Skåne is connected to the Copenhagen region through the bridge over the Öresund.

The job market in Skåne has a broad industry structure with specializations in areas such as life science, food production, computer games and packaging.

What is our purpose?

For our part in Skåne, we focus on work in what we have chosen to call "The developing triangle"; children/young people, dialogue and transport.

Developing triangle

Children and young people are the ones who will shape and live in the society of the future; therefore, it is extremely important to listen to them. We take our point in a hypothesis that children and young people are the key to changing different transport behaviors and that it is therefore central to find forms for a dialogue with children/young people about how they see future transport infrastructure; with or without a car.

During the project, we will test how this work can be carried out in various seminars with children and young people in a number of municipalities in Skåne.

What do we want to achieve within Mobility Makers?

The EU Youth Strategy is the framework for European cooperation in the youth field for 2019-2027. In the Mobility Makers project, we put the County Administrative Board of Skåne's focus on the Youth Strategy's main areas; engagement, connection and empowerment, which entail providing opportunities for young people to get involved both in everyday life and in democratic life.

Public society in many cases has very poor knowledge and readiness to capture the views of children and young people before decisions are made. Methodological development work is needed to strengthen democracy and increase the level of engagement between children/young people and politicians/civil servants.

The concrete result of our work in the project will be an operational manual with recommendations on how municipalities, regions and authorities can work to increase the participation and influence of children and young people in planning and decision-making when it comes to transport infrastructure.
