Living Lab Raversijde
Raversijde is a typical Belgian coastal town with an important touristic sector and recreational importance as well as ecological values (e.g. in the dune areas). The coast from Nieuwpoort to Wenduine suffers from erosion, which is expected to increase due to climate change. The main challenge is to engage partners to monitor, do tests in the field, and innovate at Raversijde to improve the understanding of the soft coastal defenses. New monitoring programs by research groups will contribute to increased system knowledge, which is applicable for similar projects elsewhere. In-situ behavior of beaches, dunes, and the shore face will be monitored, while knowledge is shared with stakeholders.
