Urban Waterway Logistics (UWL)

Relevant Thematic Competences and Experiences
Urban Waterway Logistics, categorized as "Other," is a Triple Helix consortium; uniting SMEs, government organizationsand research institutes. UWL specializes in urban waterway logistics, and actively engaging in real-life testing within Ghent.

Role in the Project
In this project, UWL plays an important role in various work packages (WPs) as follows:

  • WP1: UWL leads the organization of three Freight Flow Coalitions (FFCs) to establish novel logistic flows (City Logistics, Construction, Waste, Farmers) in Flanders, with a focus on modal shifts from road to water transport. Importantly, these coalitions will continue to operate beyond the project's completion.
  • WP2: Testcases: Study and assess the potential for the vessel as a Power Supply for applications beyond propulsion and test procedures for loading and unloading urban vessels.
  • WP2: Business Modelling: The FFCs comprise SMEs from diverse sectors. Tests are conducted in Ghent's Living Lab under real economic conditions, employing zero-emission transport modes. This generates data crucial for creating economically viable waterway freight streams with valuable input from partners like HHX.
  • WP3: Durability: UWL contributes to the sustainability of the Living Lab, ensuring its continued operation post InnoWaTr, thereby fostering the establishment of new consortia.

Benefits of Participation
Participating in the InnoWaTr2.0 project presents several benefits to UWL:

  •  Collaboration: InnoWaTr2.0 provides an excellent platform for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and expertise exchange with other stakeholders in the field.
  • Implementation of SUMP: UWL’s involvement in the project aligns seamlessly with Ghent's Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans, encompassing low-emission zones, traffic circulation plans, and vehicle parking plans, aiding their effective implementation.
  • Insights into Water Usage: Participation in InnoWaTr provides unique insights into the mobility of individuals, logistics of goods, and leisure use of inland waterways, contributing to enhanced urban waterway logistics strategies.
  • Targeting WP Objectives: As a dedicated member organization, UWL is fully committed to achieving all project objectives outlined in the work packages, ensuring a comprehensive and impactful contribution to the project's overall success.
