SSPA Sweden AB (RISE)
Relevant Thematic Competences and Experiences
SSPA is a research institution part of RISE, the Swedish Research Institute, and has a strong focus on contributing to a sustainable maritime future. Areas of interest includes for example ship hull and propulsion, zero-carbon and low-carbon fuels and propulsion technologies, wind-powered ships, sustainable maritime logistics, human factors, computational fluid dynamics, ocean energy conversion and naval research. SSPA is experienced from combining the technical development at the research front of green shipping technologies with practical experiences and tools for involving stakeholders and analysis of logistics efficiency and its applications within the inland waterway shipping segment.
Role in the Project
SSPA's role in the project includes leading WP2 and coordinating various activities:
WP1:
- CoordinatingSwedish Freight Flow coalition, involving shipping operators, cargo owners, ports, authorities, and researchers.
- Focusing on the bulk segment, understanding values, motivations, and driving forces for inland waterway transport (IWT).
- Cross-cutting comparisons between Freight Flow Coalitions (FFCs) to identify transferrable key learnings.
WP2:
- Applying of green shipping solutions for bulk transport, evaluating cost, energy, and environmental impact.
- Developing a digital tool to match senders and receivers of aggregates from construction projects for efficient waterway logistics.
WP3:
- Developing and sharing of bulk flow logistics concepts and competitive green shipping business models.
- Sharing guidelines for green and competitive IWT in Sweden.
Benefits of Participation
Participating in the InnoWaTr2.0 project offers several benefits to RISE:
- Alignment with SSPA's goal of contributing to a sustainable maritime future.
- Strengthening the understanding of greening IWT in Sweden as a competitive shipping solution.
- The formation of a new network of key stakeholders within the bulk segment, crucial for disseminating project results and accelerating knowledge about green IWT's potential.
- A valuable contribution to Swedish IWT policy development.
