There are a lot of benefits to green(/blue) infrastructures in the public space, besides the climate-adaptive effects. Explaining these co-benefits to colleagues that have a different expertise, can be quite challenging. But no worries, help has arrived!

Written by Vito Leyssens

The climate-adaptive funnel is a visual conversation-starter. The goal is to get people talking and thinking about the co-benefits of greenblue infrastructure, by working on a real case. You have to get representatives of different policy domains around the table and the funnel will do the rest! Simply go through the animated tool with the different representatives and find out which measures can achieve the targets of each policy domain, illustrated by real-life examples.

Policy bubbles

Let’s say the sewage system in a commercial street will undergo maintenance works. This project will be relevant for different local policy domains like economy, mobility, health and environment. Representatives of each policy domain will get together to find synergies across the domains by discussing and comparing targets. Put the project in the funnel to integrate greenblue solutions for the set targets.

Throughout the funnel, there is a bubble reserved for the following domains: economy, health, mobility, youth, tourism & identity and social equity & engagement. In each bubble, inspiring examples of public spaces in the North Sea region are used to demonstrate the added value of greenblue measures to the relevant domain, convincing everyone that a tree does so much more than being pretty alone.

The workbook

Relevant targets for each policy domain are linked to concrete measures that have climate-adaptive impact, resulting in a future-proof and attractive commercial street. The workbook aids you in consolidating these ideas while the funnel keeps the conversation alive. At the end of the workbook, you can find different free, online, science-based tools to support the decision-making process. The funnel allows you to be creative, the workbook allows you to be practical. Once the message has come across, you can go straight to the workbook to find a link between targets and measures in future projects.

So stay tuned, the funnel and workbook will be published in 2025!
