About the area
Flood risks in this area
The risk of flooding is quite high. There is a river, Klarälven, and during the spring snowmelt, flooding often occurs. This happens every year, but the severity of the floods varies. In recent years, floods have also frequently occurred in the fall due to persistent rainfall. The watercourse is regulated by a dam, which means that they can release extra water during snowmelt and prolonged rain, increasing the risk of flooding in the Klarälven Valley
Contribution of the FIER project to this area
We are working together with Karlstad University in the FIER project. Through The FIER-project, we hope to learn from the other partners in effectively communicating the risks of flooding and heavy rainfall, and to encourage people in the Klarälven Valley to adopt the evacuation plan. The plan is currently being developed, so that the inhabitants are prepared in the event of a flood large enough to require the evacuation of the Klarälven Valley.
