About the area

Flood Risk in this Area
The Wesermarsch county is a low-lying coastal region which faces multiple flood risks: storm tides from the North Sea, high water levels from the Weser River and heavy rainfall. While large parts of the population are aware of flood risk in general, they assume that the public sector is responsible to manage such risks. However, the pilot work in the FRAMES project (https://northsearegion.eu/frames/) revealed that for the case of flooding no specific evacuation concepts are available.

Contribution of the FIER project to this area
Jade Hochschule aims to overcome the above described deficiency. In close collaboration with regional stakeholders, flood scenarios will be defined in the FIER project and used as basis for evacuation planning. Moreover, information material will be developed in order to raise flood resilience of stakeholders and citizens. Special emphasis will be set to vulnerable people needing specific support. This can be for example specific information (material) for people with language diffeculties, or specific equipment for help organisations for the evacuation of disabled people.
