On Monday 19 and Tuesday 20 February, the Flanders Environment Agency gave a demonstration to the French CLANCY partners on how to build a mobile crab trap

Under expert guidance, the partners were able to draw, craft and build the trap themselves. The necessary materials, the designs and information on how to place the trap in a watercourse was explained.

The mobile crab trap is seen as a crucial step forward in the fight against the Chinese mitten crab. Providing partners within the project with the knowledge and skills to build the trap themselves will enable widespread implementation of the trap in European rivers. This not only increases the effectiveness of the management measures, but also contributes to the sustainability of the project. The initiative is part of the broader effort to effectively monitor and manage the spread of the Chinese wolf crab, which threatens the biodiversity and stability of European waterways.
