Since 10 January, a mobile crab trap has been set up at the fish ladder along the Terbiestmolen on the Zwalm river (in Flanders, Belgium). The crab trap is a movable installation measuring 1,5 to 2 meters long. It will monitor the mitten crabs for a specific period. The mobile trap does not have a fixed size and can be adjusted to the width of the waterway. Following an evaluation, a permanent crab trap may be installed. Ideally, this trap will be placed near the mouth of the Scheldt river, allowing crabs to be redirected to the Scheldt instead of being captured.
