CircleBIM – Successful kick-off
How can circular planning and construction projects in cities and regions become more efficient through the innovative use of Building Information Management BIM? The international consortium of CircleBIM is trialling this in local partnerships in the North Sea region. The aim is to jointly develop and test innovative BIM processes to support cities and regions in cycle-orientated construction and planning projects.
Representatives of the 13 project partners from 7 countries across the North Sea region met at HafenCity University for the joint project kick-off in Hamburg. On 2 and 3 December, the HafenCity University project team from the three professorships of Urban Planning and Regional Development, Design and Analysis of Structures and Digital Integrated Process Management - Planning / BIM welcomed the guests as lead partners.
Two days of lectures, themed workshops and discussion rounds marked the start of the joint collaboration. There was also space to get to know each other, network and exchange ideas.
Additional inputs were given by external speakers to inspire and motivate the project:
The Interreg NorthSea Region NSR Joint Secretariat informed on program rules and communication;
The Senate Chancellery Hamburg also representing the German National Contact Point for NSR gave insight on circular construction activities and projects in Hamburg;
The German Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR) presented their project “Circular economy in rural areas”.
The aim of the joint work in CircleBIM until April 2028 is to develop and implement a pilot project for circular planning and construction using BIM in six local partnerships in a co-creative process. The partners will develop regional action plans based on the findings of the local partnerships to consolidate and further apply the project results. To ensure the transnational transfer of results beyond the project partnership, CircleBIM will develop a North Sea-wide awareness-raising and implementation strategy.
