Lille - Small urban public space, Jules Lefebvre

Context

The Jules Lefebvre pilot project involves the creation of allotments and a shared garden on a 640m² site in the center of the highly urbanised Wazemmes district. The project consists of demolishing a building to create a new green space for local residents.

A number of different facilities will be installed including 10 allotment garden plots, 1 collective plot of 117m², 1 trellised orchard of 40m², 1 wetland area of 89m², and the installation of garden sheds for water management (recovered in a cistern).

Half of the site is taken up by the shared garden and the other half by the allotment garden plots. The allotments are managed by individual gardeners who are selected from a communal waiting list. The shared gardens will be managed by an association.

Planned Actions

  1. Increase the amount of green space in a highly urbanised area.
  2. Part of the development and landscaping of the site will be carried out in a participatory way.
  3. Support residents and increase their skills in managing the facilities by themselves (pond, orchard, etc.).
  4. Create links between the management association and the tenants of family plots through events and activities linked to nature in the city.
