Lille - Parc des expositions
Context
The Petit gris neighbourhood is a social housing complex made of 261 housing units. Its architecture is typical of the 1970s (when urban planning and biodiversity weren't a priority) and will be renovated very soon. The City of Lille seizes the opportunity of this renovation to develop the green space located in the centre of the buildings.
The heart of the renovation aims at upgrading the thermal performance to the standards and creating 60 housing units. Yet, because of the location of the pilot site and the problems of use, the pilot site demands a broader approach to this renovation with larger objectives in mind. First, the issues of “residentialisation”, allocation of space, use of parking lots, rationalization of real estate, are topics that need to be addressed. Second, the site location is of geographical interest as it has a central location situated between the Parc de la Citadelle and the Euralille district.
Planned Actions
- Follow-up of the ecological diagnosis of the green spaces
- Technical support in defining the project for the residences' outdoor spaces, particularly with a view to promoting ecological space
- Organisation of workshops with residents to co-construct these spaces and raise awareness of future planted landscaping.
- Reflection on governance procedures for these green spaces (from a social housing perspective)
Objectives
- Enhance existing green spaces
- Create opportunities for active mobility (pedestrians, cyclists) between gardens
- Clarify the organisation of land, public spaces and parking lots, using the opportunity to further accentuate the place and quality of natural spaces
