There is a growing interest in hemp for construction. It is often associated with challenges - from building permits to lack of knowledge and experience with the materials. But if we want a green transition, it must be both easy and attractive to build bio-based. That is why Hampens Hus is built with different hemp materials from floor to roof, where we share experiences from the construction and what we as a municipality learn along the way. The house is being built in Nykøbing Falster at the vocational high school CELF.
In Guldborgsund Municipality, we work for a green transition, and we put action behind our words.Traditional construction has a large climate footprint, which is why we are now building the Hemp House to test hemp and test new types of bio-based building materials. There are pioneers, also in Denmark, who have or are in the process of building with hemp. Thus, there is already a development of knowledge and experience underway, to which we would like to contribute with Hampens Hus.
By building an entire house almost exclusively in bio-based materials, we as a municipality get through many of the processes where the bio-based challenges conventional knowledge and practice - so for us as a municipality, the house is a tool to learn how we do things. It is equally important that future tradesmen and others who work with construction gain the necessary knowledge of and experience with construction – that is why both the vocational school and the vocational high school are closely involved in Hampens Hus.
Hampens Hus is an experience and knowledge sharing project, and on this page we would like to invite you to visit the construction once it has started.Guldborgsund Municipality thanks the new and good collaboration with the team behind Hampens Hus: The philanthropic association Realdania, nikolova/aarsø architects , Adserballe og Knudsen a/s, CELF, Nykøbing Falster, Birkelink ApS, DTU, Odico, Structured Environment ApS, Agrovi and Business Lolland-Falster.
The agricultural advisers Agrovi, Business Lolland-Falster, CELF and Guldborgsund municipality will work in the EU project, Building Based on Bio Based, to investigate whether the production and the value chains that already work in e.g. The Netherlands and France, where you grow, process and use materials from the hemp plant for materials and construction, can also create value in the South Sea Islands and in Denmark. Agrovi is responsible for trial cultivation of hemp at Falster. BFL will look at business cases, CELF ensures that future craftsmen and students gain knowledge and practical experience with hemp for construction and Guldborgsund must gather the stakeholders who are interested in contributing to new local production - if it turns out to be not only climate-wise but also economically sustainable.
