On the 6th of October one of our Danish partners in the consortium, Municipality Middelfart hosted an interesting group visit. 50 municipal "Eco Advisors" from the Małopolskie region in southern Poland visited Denmark to gather insights and inspiration for accelerating the implementation of measures to improve air quality in the region. One of the proposed measures for this is clean heating.

Our WaterWarmth partner at municipality of Middelfart, Morten Westergaard introduced, and had a conversation about, Thermonet (Collective ground source heatpumps).

The heat renewable energy in Thermonet can be extracted from water sources, such as lakes, rivers, and oceans. Or even from geothermal drillings passing layers of water in the ground. All in all, aqua thermal energy systems.

The delegation had the pleasure of visiting one of Denmarks newest and smallest DistrictHeating systems in the village of Føns thanks to Oleback. In Føns they have multiple energy sources connected to the district heating system, including a geothermal drilling of 100 meters depth. The borehole passes through layers with water-flow and can deliver more energy than expected due to waterflow.

As a part of the Waterwarth project the municipality of Middelfart has opportunity to follow and collect data on energy uptake and storage from the borehole. The thermal response test indicates aqua thermal properties with a thermal conductivity of 1,8 w/(m*K), and therefor an interesting theme for more European “Eco Advisors” to follow. We will follow this in Waterwarmth.
