TREASURE kicks off to reduce plastic litter in the North Sea Region waterways!
TREASURE kicks off in Oldenburg
In October, the TREASURE team had its first inspiring in-person meeting in order to officially kick off the ambitious project. Over two days in Wilhelmshaven and Oldenburg, the consortium of 15 partners from 5 countries built a solid foundation for the tasks ahead.
During the first day in Wilhelmshaven, the TREASURE team started the day with a harbour cruise to get a first glimpse of the planned Living Lab ‘PlasticFREEsia’ from the best possible perspective: the water! The cruise was followed by an information-packed workshop session at the Institute for Chemistry and Biology of the Marine Environment, during which the partner organisations their planned living labs were introduced.
The second day took place at the University of Oldenburg’s Haarentor Campus in Oldenburg. Inspired and recharged after day one, the consortium had a day filled with interactive presentations and discussions about the four thematic pillars: governance & policy, data collection & analysis, prevention & behaviour change, and removal of plastic litter. These offered the foundation for mapping out the links between each of the pillars and highlighted the need for close, transnational cooperation and exchange.
