During the second SSCH partner meeting in Brussels that took place Wednesday January 29th and Thursday January 30th, the project discussed the developments of the three planned SSCH Living Labs in Flanders, Helsingborg and Vlissingen and how the Super Smart Charging concept can benefit different stakeholders.

The Vrije Universiteit Brussel presented the results of a monetary optimization considering the installation of PVs and batteries for different EV fleets. Some preliminary insights: while in some cases, installing batteries would not be advisable, in some other cases, combined with bi-directional smart charging, this could result in high peak reductions and operational costs reductions.

Flux 50 provided an update about the regulatory framework, among others showing that there is quite some EU regulations and directives in place that relate to the concept of SSCH (Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation and the Electricity Market Design Directive and Regulation). Also, we have learned that situations are different in the involved member states when it comes to the connection to the grid, options to share energy behind the metering point, charging infrastructure, severity levels of grid congestions and (scrapping) of double taxes related to bi-directional charging.

Partners visited the VUB Green Energy Park research hub on carbon-neutral multi-energy grid. They learned among others about the impact of EVs on local energy systems and how this could be optimised. Additionally, they learned about the Smart Multi Energy Lab – Smart Home Lab.
