As part of the European Interreg North Sea project STORM_SAFE, the first in-person steering group meeting took place in the Netherlands on 5 March 2025. During the meeting, international partners gathered at the Ramspol storm surge barrier to strengthen the digital resilience of ‘wet’ critical infrastructure along the North Sea.
The meeting focused on three main themes: increasing software reliability in ‘wet’ mission-critical control systems, strengthening cross-border cooperation, and influencing policy at the EU level to achieve sustainable digital security.
Infrastructure reliability is not only about technology; it also depends on cooperation and smart regulation. STORM_SAFE therefore actively seeks dialogue with European policymakers. Through practical pilots, concrete case studies, and well-founded position papers, the project contributes to the development of future-proof EU policy in the field of digital security.
In May 2025, the annual STORM_SAFE project meeting is scheduled. A midterm review will follow in 2026. In the meantime, software solutions will be further tested and scaled up in practice, with the goal of a more secure, resilient Europe.
