Results of Extensive Online Survey on Shore Power (SPIES)

To increase the involvement of various players in the shore power domain and gather valuable insights, SPIES launched an extensive online survey. This survey targeted inland shipping companies, port and waterway managers, cabinet builders, hardware suppliers, software developers, government agencies, and research institutions from the North Sea region.

The survey took place from September 2024 to January 2025 and included specific questionnaires for each target group. It aimed to gauge experiences, challenges, and obstacles in the use of shore power, as well as the needs within the sector. The distribution was carried out through project partners and member organizations within the maritime sector.

SPIES received 123 responses from 11 countries. The responses per target group are considered representative of the entire group. Notably, there was strong representation from inland shipping companies and ports, indicating their need for a simple and functional rollout of shore power. The response from cabinet builders and technology suppliers was more limited but included all major market players.

The survey results form the basis for in-depth working group discussions and targeted interviews, through which further input will be gathered for the project.

If you are interested in participating in the working groups or one-on-one conversations: contact your regional manager.

More results will soon be published.
