Great news! The second issue of the SMALL's Insights is now out! Unveiled for the first time at the Annual POLIS Conference 2024, our booklet brings together the main takeaways and expert insights on implementing inclusive shared mobility pilots borne out of SMALL's 2nd Roundtable, held in Amsterdam earlier this year. Find out more below.
The second SMALL Insight Paper, titled ‘Prioritizing people with reduced mobility in shared mobility pilot design and post-project planning,’ has finally been released! This publication, co-authored by POLIS and POLIS member Mpact, was unveiled on the second day of the Annual POLIS Conference 2024. It highlights how co-creation can make shared mobility more inclusive by prioritising people with reduced mobility. Co-creation, as explored within the project, fosters collective ownership and centres end-users from the very beginning of the service’s design, helping cities and operators create more accessible solutions.
Based on discussions at the second SMALL roundtable in Amsterdam, the paper provides real-world examples and practical guidelines for creating sustainable and accessible shared mobility services. It focuses on:
- End users at the centre of mobility journeys: Addressing challenges faced by users with reduced mobility and how co-creation can help overcome them.
- Cities and operators together as catalysts for change: Exploring how city-led initiatives and collaboration with operators can ensure accessibility remains a priority beyond pilot projects.
- Regulatory frameworks’ impact and understanding inclusive spaces: Examining how regulatory environments and accessible infrastructure are vital for enabling the successful and sustainable implementation of inclusive shared mobility solutions.
This paper is meant to serve as a guide for cities and operators to design shared mobility solutions that genuinely meet the needs of all users and represents a step forward in POLIS's mission to promote equitable and inclusive transport solutions across Europe.
