Partners of the SELECT project met in Hamburg, March 27, to explore the electric fleet at Deutsche Post AG / DHL Group, and to discuss the challenges and opportunities of electromobility in logistics.
The logistics industry is in the midst of a transformation, driven by the need to find more sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions. On March 27, the second partner meeting for the SELECT project took place, organized by the Logistics Initiative Hamburg (LIHH). Powered by electricity, the day began at 8 am with a ride through Hamburg's city traffic in a MOIA – a shared taxi service operated by battery electric minivans.
A highlight of the day was the visit to a logistics hub operated by Deutsche Post AG/DHL Group, a pioneer in the electrification of transport fleets. This meeting also provided a platform for representatives from various EU projects of LIHH (SELECT, DECARBOMILE, E-Boost) to exchange views on the latest developments and challenges in electromobility.
The participants had the opportunity to tour the facilities and to take a closer look at their electric fleet. A highlight for many was the environmentally friendly test drive in the various distribution vehicles of Deutsche Post AG/DHL Group from the passenger seat. They not only demonstrated their progress in electrification but also provided insights into the daily operations during a tour of the distribution station.
It became clear that the electrification of the transport sector is gaining momentum. The SELECT project could extract several insights from the study visit, which were in part discussed during an adjoining meeting at the Logistics Initiative Hamburg's offices.
