A team of scientists from the Institute of Natural Sciences in Brussels has successfully identified traces of TNT in sediment samples from the North Sea. But how exactly do researchers detect explosives in the environment?

By using advanced chemical analysis techniques, such as Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), scientists can accurately trace TNT residues, even in complex sediment mixtures. These methods allow for precise detection, helping to assess potential environmental contamination and its long-term effects on marine ecosystems.
