On Monday, 24th of June, 2024, REMARCO participated in the "Information Day on the Start of Systematic Clearance of Munition Contaminants in the Baltic Sea" at the GEOMAR in Kiel in Germany.
The event provided valuable insights through presentations from the Ministry for Energy, Agriculture, Environment and Nature of Schleswig-Holstein, the Federal Police, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service, the German Armed Forces, and other experts. They discussed their work, the topic at hand, and the upcoming €100 million Immediate Action Program. Following the official presentations, numerous participants showcased their work at information stands, educating guests about munitions clearance efforts. REMARCO partners UKSH, north.io, and SeaTerra were also present. REMARCO engaged visitors with the traveling exhibition from the predecessor project North Sea Wrecks, developed by the German Maritime Museum, highlighting their work in the North Sea. Additionally, Dr. Matthias Brenner and Dr. Edmund Maser from REMARCO delivered public presentations, which attracted enthusiastic audiences who engaged with the speakers through personal questions during and after the talks.
The event was highly successful and enjoyable, raising awareness and achieving significant progress towards munitions clearance in the Baltic Sea.
