BDI brought together around 15 actors from public, private and the training sectors at their pavilion during the HyVolution 2024. The three-day event, from January 30 to February 1, was used to promote the exchange of experience and information between the stakeholders from businesses, principals, and local authorities. The possibility of stakeholder engagement in this framework is a vital part for launching the sector.
The announcement of tri-regional cooperation between Brittany, Pays de la Loire and Normandy was the high point of this rich program. Loïg Chesnais-Girard, President of the Brittany Region, Aline Louisy-Louis, Vice-President of the Normandy Region, and Roland Marion, Pays de la Loire regional advisor responsible for energy transition, have, with one voice, set the objectives for deploying H2 in their territories by 2030.
Maritime regions par excellence, Brittany, Pays de la Loire and Normandy each carry and develop projects for the deployment of hydrogen solutions in their industrial basins and within local loops, such as in Le Havre, Brest, Saint-Nazaire and Lorient. At HyVolution 2024, they announced the launch of a Grand Ouest Hydrogen Basin project.
The regions share a fairly marked common base, with in particular the common desire to decarbonize port uses and to develop maritime uses less dependent on fossil fuels, says Élodie Boileux. BDI remains alongside the Brittany Region to support the development of projects linked to these new opportunities.
The specificity of the Brittany pavilion was the establishment of a training and research center with several actors, such as ERH2, Cap Hydrogène, ENSIBS, Université Bretagne Sud, thus demonstrating the desire of the Brittany Region to develop research and a training offer to support the deployment of hydrogen solutions in its territory.
This is very much in line with the activities in REDII Ports. As part of the project, the BDI Craft Tool will be tailored to the port eco-system and its renewable energy opportunities. Hydrogen plays an important role in this regard and the platform will serve to exchange information and as decision-making / business tool.
Furthermore, the Brittany Region is looking into the utilisation of hydrogen on its ports. Here, economic- and technological feasibility is analysed and a pre-operational study for local production, shore-side fuelling, storage, and supply chain of hydrogen is carried out within the REDII Ports project.
Therefore, it was a great leveraging and stakeholder engagement opportunity to present the REDII Ports project and its hydrogen activities, during a 20-minute forum at the HyVolution.
