Successful Workshop for Aalborg Pilot Case

How to increase interest in and use of multi functional boxes for library books? How can the boxes be used in rural areas to increase service and avoid extra transport? This was the focus, when citizens in rural areas were invited to two workshops to develop Aalborg's pilot case.

In December 2024, new Baseboxes were set up in three smaller towns in Aalborg Municipality. The new boxes make it possible for citizens to borrow and return books from the main library without having to travel. There is no library in any of the three towns. The citizen can easily open the box by using a QR code and it is possible to pick up the books when it is convenient for them in their everyday lives.

To increase awareness of the new solution and to develop new ideas for using the boxes in rural areas, citizens in the towns with the new boxes were invited to open workshops. Over 50 citizens participated in the workshops. By seeing and trying the new solution they became comfortable using the multi functional Basebox. By talking about needs, transport behavior and possibilities in their area, citizens shared very useful  knowledge and ideas for new uses of the Basebox.

After the workshops citizens in the towns were asked to fill out a survey regarding their transport behavior, loan of books from the library, and new ideas for using the Basebox.
