On the 4th of June a new bike-sharing was launched in Mechelen! Both locals and visitors in the Vervoerregio Mechelen (which includes Mechelen and 11 neighbouring municipalities) can now use one of the 360 shared bicycles of Donkey Republic to get around.

The 142 new shared bicycles (81 regular and 61 electric bicycles) are a great addition to the existing mobility options in Mechelen. Although we already have multiple bike sharing options (like Blue-Bike, Mobit, Cargaroo or Dégage), Donkey Republic is the first back-to-many system in the city. Meaning that you can borrow the bicycle from one location and leave it at another drop-off location. Even in the regions outside Mechelen where Donkey Republic is active. So residents can cycle to a hub at an important attraction point in Mechelen (e.g. Planckendael ZOO) or even to Antwerp.

You can find Donkey Republic bikes at fixed spots in Mechelen, often at future Hoppinpunten locations. These spots always have minimum number of bicycles, so you can easily switch from the train or bus to a bike or shared car. Through MoLo Hubs, the City of Mechelen aims to make the Hoppinpunten more attractive, accessible, versatile, … by providing different types of sustainable mobility and urban logistics solution.
