The first workshop for the pilot use case in Aalborg took place on January 11th. The purpose of the workshop was to share knowledge on where to place new parcel boxes and together find the specific locations in the city center for the boxes. There are many different considerations when boxes are to be placed in the urban area.
The new parcel boxes must function both for sending and receiving packages and for collecting hazardous waste. Therefor it is very important that the new boxes are strategically placed so that they are accessible to as many citizens as possible. It is crucial for the use of the boxes that citizens do not have to walk far to hand over their hazardous waste.
However, when new boxes are to be placed in the urban area, there are also many other considerations. It can be the consideration of being able to operate roads, visibility for car drivers and cyclists, snow removal, protection of the city's green areas and not at least the visual image of the city's aesthetics.
A workshop was therefore organized where all these considerations were represented by various experts. City architects, waste planners, mobility planners and green area manager all gave a great insight into their perspective. In round table conversations, small workshop one to one and reflection activities in small groups all participants shared their considerations and ideas. At the end there were a common talk about how to meet all considerations.
The insight helps to ensure that the boxes are placed correctly the first time and that there are no misplacements, complains or relocations afterwards.
There was a great willingness to learn from each other and to find common solutions. The workshop ended up with pointing out new locations for the boxes and a plan on how to cooperate in the future.
