Opening of the New Box Concept in Aalborg - big interest and positive feedback from citizens at the introduction of new packing boxes.
In Aalborg, it is now possible for citizens to hand in their hazardous waste in new packing boxes. 32 new boxes are now located in different places in Aalborg, and 16 more are on the way. This was marked Wednesday the 6th of March, with an opening event and a workshop attended by citizens, partners, politicians, and other stakeholders. In a short time, citizens can also receive parcels in the boxes, and they can combine both their errands and save trips to the recycling center:
“It was easy to scan the code (at the box) and hand in my waste. Then you do not have to go to the recycling center each time. I go by bike, so it is a long trip” Charlotte, Citizen of Aalborg.
At the opening, Anna Aaen, Alderman of Climate and Environment, introduced the system and opened the first box. The aim is to gather several services in the same place and therefore avoid unnecessary transport of package delivery and waste collection:
“By combining several functions in one package box, we optimize the use of physical space and infrastructure” Anna Aaen, Alderman of Climate and Environment, Aalborg Municipality.
At the opening and workshop citizens were involved in giving ideas for further uses of the boxes. The citizens also gave an insight into how they currently sorted their waste and used parcel services. This knowledge is used to adapt and develop the system in the coming years. At the moment, 150 citizens have given their feedback at the workshop and online.
