Since 2015, the provincial Bicycle Barometer has been counting cyclists throughout the year on the regional functional cycling route network."In 2019, we saw a 12% increase in cyclists compared to 2018. Due to the pandemic, this number increased by 1% in 2020, and despite the COVID-19 measures, we still noticed a 2% increase in 2021. In 2022, we broke all cycling records with an increase of over 20%. With a growth of 6%, 2023 is also a very successful cycling year. This trend indicates a growth of more than 59% in cyclists since the start of the counts in 2015," says Deputy Luk Lemmens, responsible for Mobility. "The rising numbers of cyclists confirm that ongoing investments in cycling and cycling policies are paying off."
