Ronald Jorna, project manager of the MegaBITS project, will be speaking at the TRA conference in Dublin this week from Monday 15 to Thursday 18 April.

The Transport Research Arena is the foremost European transport event that covers all transport modes and all aspects of mobility. It is the largest research and technology conference on transport and mobility in Europe.

Ronald will be speaking about the role of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) in promoting cycling as a preferred mode of transport. In his presentation he will speak about the 50+ smart cycling implementations in the BITS (2019-2022) and MegaBITS (2023-2026) projects, and how this help greening the EU transport systems by making cycling safer, faster, more convenient, and easier to use.

These ITS applications not only directly benefit the cyclists, but also indirectly, since the many applications also generate valuable data that can be used by policy makers to improve cycling conditions. One can think of bike counting data, floating bike data, bike parking data, availability and use of shared bike schemes, etc., data types also mentioned in the delegated regulations on RTTI and MMTIS.
