At a recent session at the ITS World Congress in Dubai Jørgen Wanscher (Hermes Traffic Intelligence) and Christina Mose (Head of the Traffic Department in the City of Copenhagen) highlighted the importance of equal data collection for both cars and bicycles in the city.

As Copenhagen continues to invest heavily in cycling infrastructure, Christina emphasized that there are now more bicycles than cars on the roads, making it crucial to gather comprehensive data on both modes of transport.

Copenhagen is one of the flagship cities in the MegaBITS project. For the project, cities from around North West Europe have stepped up their efforts to improve counting and measuring of cyclists and cycling behaviours in their cities and regions.

The city’s commitment to cycling as a serious and equal form of transport mirrors the need for data that supports decision-making around road usage, investments, and policies. Christina's presentation underlined that just as there is data collection for cars, there must be an equal effort to understand bicycle usage patterns, safety, and mobility in Copenhagen.

For more details, the attached presentation from the ITS World Congress outlines the specifics of these efforts.
