The annual Vänersjöfartsträff (Vänern Shipping Conference) took place in Lidköping 29th of November 2024. The theme of the event was "Future Outlooks for Shipping," where the latest developments in efforts to create favorable conditions for the advancement of shipping were discussed.
Engaging Discussions on the Development of Vänern Shipping
Each year, Vänersamarbetet (the economic association of municipalities around Lake Vänern), and the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket), organizes a meeting for those interested in the development of Vänern shipping. This year, approximately 80 participants from the business sector, authorities, municipalities, and the research community attended the event.
The day featured insightful presentations from the business sector, discussing both the opportunities and challenges surrounding the development of Vänern shipping, as well as the need for a functioning inland waterway system. Participants also heard from the Swedish Maritime Administration (Sjöfartsverket) and the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket), who shared their work on enhancing the competitiveness of shipping and the project for new locks in the Trollhätte Canal, which connects Lake Vänern to the North Sea.
During the event, Kristinehamn Municipality had the opportunity to present the Interreg North Sea Region Programe project 'Green Supply Chains', outlining its objectives, sub-projects, and the municipality's efforts in Stakeholder Involvement. The day generated interesting talks, new connections, and valuable discussions among actors throughout the entire supply chain. A big thank you to Vänersamarbetet, the Swedish Transport Administration, and Lidköping for a rewarding meeting in 2024!
