Building upon the continues dialogue with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Working Party on the Standardization of Technical Safety Requirements in Inland Navigation (SC.3/WP.3), the Interreg North Sea Region Programme projects Green Supply Chains and SPIES received an invitation to share their perspectives during the UNECE workshop session “Digitalization and Greening of Inland Water Transport”.
The workshop is embedded in SC.3/WP.3 68th session and will take place in the UNECE head quarter Palais des Nations, Geneva on 23rd October 2024.
Aim of the workshop is to identify activities on digitalization and greening of inland water transport, strategies, programmes and projects in this field, progress made by countries, international organizations and key stakeholders.
This is an excellent possibility to inform countries delegates in UNECE about inland waterway transport on-goings in the North Sea Region and at the same time underline specifics and needs for a sustainable development of inland waterway transport infrastructure, legal international framework conditions, rules and regulations.
The inland water transport section of UNECE sets international rules and regulation in cooperation with UNECE member states’ delegates.
Further, the North Sea Region projects team up with the Baltic Sea Region project Blue Supply Chains, also implementing a pilots for sustainable inland waterway transport: The first zero emission inland waterway.
