Underwater photogrammetry is evolving quickly and our partner AquaSmart is learning how to incorporate new technologies into its sub-sea ROV!

It was an interesting opportunity for AquaSmart to attend the conference and fair Ocean Business 2025 at the National Oceanography Centre in Southampton, in UK, on 8-10 April 2025. This was a hands-on event for the ocean science and technology community. The DIOL partner AquaSmart was one of over 300 world leading manufacturers and service providers present. During the Training and Demonstrations Programme, Jens Stook and Tijmen van Enckevort were able to test the latest available technology and talk to suppliers in person about the new features and developments of robots, sensors, USV’s, sonars and underwater connectors. As a technology partner within DIOL, AquaSmartXL will use the knowledge and insights gathered at the event to further develop and upgrade its aquatic drones in support of the offshore energy and port/logistics industry.
Ocean Business 2025 showcased how fast underwater photogrammetry is evolving with AI-enhanced image stitching, live 3D visualization, improved low-light performance, integration with other sensors and Cloud-based processing. These innovations are making underwater photogrammetry not just more accurate, but also faster, more accessible, and operationally efficient—a huge win for infrastructure inspection and offshore energy. Exciting times ahead for the subsea imaging world!
