Fraunhofer IFAM will officially open its Offshore Drone Campus in Cuxhaven on September 17, 2024, a key step in enhancing drone technology for offshore applications. The Offshore Drone Campus is a central component in DIOL, and partners, especially Fraunhofer, are pleased to see the realisation of one of the milestones in the project being opened. The facility is designed to support the research and development of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) used in the maintenance, logistics, inspection, and repair of offshore wind turbines. The campus offers unique testing opportunities in realistic environments, with flight corridors extending to the German Bight and Helgoland.

The event program for the day includes:

  • 10:30 AM: Reception and registration
  • 11:00 AM: Opening remarks from Fraunhofer IFAM leadership and local political figures
  • 11:45 AM: Panel discussion featuring industry leaders, researchers, and policymakers discussing the future of offshore drone technology
  • 12:30 PM: Drone flight show demonstrating cutting-edge UAS capabilities, followed by a tour of the facilities

This event provides an excellent platform to explore the future of drone innovation in offshore sectors, combining interdisciplinary research with industry collaboration to ensure drones' safe and efficient operation under harsh maritime conditions.
